I’m glad this is brought to light. Before we can fix the medication problem we must fix the parenting problem. This is what happens when kids are raised (yes, I said “raised”.) In daycare. You’re four year old is spending more of his or her waking hours with a babysitter instead of you and you wonder why they’re a problem? Could it be you aren’t raising them? When you are home you’re too tired to really take the time…so you drug them into submission. It’s a disgrace.

    Michelle,
Make sure to read the second part of this piece, “When Medicating Children Makes Sense” – you can see it on this page under “related articles.” We presented both sides to the complicated case.

Just about every medication myth about ADHD medicine is represented in this article. What a disservice to those children for whom the right medicine monitored by the right doctor could be life-changing.

This is very helpful. I have recently had a doctor tell me I needed to “educate myself” when I refused medication for my son. Since he is not violent or aggressive, I refused. I am glad I am not the only one who feels this is often a poor way to treat autism/adhd.

Medications nearly killed my kid. There is documentation that proves it. Diagnosed at age 4 with ADHD, Pdd-nos, OHI. Medicated from age 4 to 15 then additional unapproved off label meds were added, and the havoc causally related to said meds interfered with health, thankful we found the doctors that were needed to get detoxification, immune system support supplementation, and near eliminating the severe health issues that were evident. There is now no more asthma, the blood cells are producing, and adhd is no longer manifested. wondering if it ever was the right primary dx. Either way, we are thankful that these harsh medications are not a part of our daily lives, and that the Body can heal itself.
